• Father, Riki, was a 3-time Super Bowl champ and 10-year LB with San Francisco (1983-89) and the LA Raiders (1990-92). 

• Spent 3 years in his father’s homeland, attending school and playing rugby and cricket in Christchurch, New Zealand, and returned for a visit with his father during the 2015 offseason.

OFF THE FIELD Married to Raina in spring 2016...Earned bachelor’s degree in international relations in spring 2011 and master’s degree in communication management in 2013 offseason...Father, Riki, was a USC standout at LB from 1978-82, helping the Trojans to the 1978 National Championship, and played for the Trojans when Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner served on coaching staff...Riki went on to a 10-year NFL career with San Francisco (1983-89) and LA Raiders (1990-92)...Sister, Wesley, played water polo at Michigan and continues to work in the UM athletic department...Father was the 1st New Zealander to play in the NFL, and Rhett lived in New Zealand from age 4-7...Returned to visit New Zealand and the famous All Blacks rugby team during the 2015 offseason...Has family ties to the Twin Cities and his mother grew up in Edina...Uncle, Dave Maley, played in the NHL.

2014 Had a breakout season in 2014 in his 1st year in Offensive Coordinator Norv Turner’s system, setting career highs in receptions (19), receiving yards (208), long receptions (40) and starts (13)...Doubled his career receptions, receiving yards and TDs in his 3rd NFL season...Saw more time as a pass-catching TE after spending most of his opening 2 seasons as a blocker and special teams player...Caught a career-best 4 passes from rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater in the Vikings win vs. Washington (11/2), helping the offense also rush for 3 TDs...Caught his 2nd career TD on a 7-yard pass from Bridgewater when the Vikings visited Chicago (11/16)...Hauled in a career-high 47 receiving yards, along with a career-long 40-yard catch  at Miami (12/21).
